Often, entrenched and complex issues such as personality disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, etc. require advanced techniques and skills to help eliminate and/or decrease the struggles these issues often cause.

Here are some of the specialty services that I offer that can assist you.

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)
Supervision, Consultation and Training

 DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is a comprehensive program offering individual therapy, telephone consultation and a DBT skills group.  The focus of DBT is to improve the quality of one’s life and to decrease destructive behaviors that have been causing a variety of problems that may include self-harm, significant suicidal thinking, extreme mood swings, substance abuse, relationship turmoil, etc..

DBT’s focus on core mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance are integral in helping to alleviate many of life’s complex and enduring problems.  I was intensively trained in DBT in 1999/2000 and continue to participate in DBT advanced learning.  Contact me for more information on individual DBT therapy and DBT skills groups.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

EMDR is a fairly new type of therapy that was initially developed by Francine Shapiro PhD in the late 1980’s.  Since then EMDR has proven to be a very effective treatment for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and various other psychological issues.

EMDR’s premise is that certain traumatic experiences get stuck in our mind and never get fully processed.  Thus, symptoms of flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, avoidance, irritability, etc. often prevail.  EMDR appears to assist the brain in fully processing this traumatic material, relieving one of  various uncomfortable symptoms, thoughts and behaviors.  Contact me for more information on EMDR.

Supervision, Consultation and Training

Since graduating with a master’s in clinical social work in 1996, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings.  I have supervised numerous MSW interns and current practicing clinicians.  I feel my breadth of knowledge, advanced training and clinical experience can be very helpful and energizing to the new clinical student, a seasoned practitioner or the general public at large.

If you are interested in ongoing clinical supervision or specific consultation on a particular clinical issue, I would be happy to offer my services.  Trainings/seminars pertaining to the understanding and utilization of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can be offered in conjunction with my affiliation to dbtmaine.com – a consortium of highly trained DBT professionals.
