I have been in the counseling field since 1996. I graduated with a BA in psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1985. After working several years in the insurance industry, I entered graduate school at Boston College and obtained my Master’s in Clinical Social Work in 1996.
I initially worked for an inpatient psychiatric hospital and in 1998 began working as an outpatient clinician at Community Counseling Center here in Portland, Maine. During my tenure at this center, I received intensive and specialty training in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I also supervised graduate interns and outpatient staff on their clinical cases. I entered into full time private practice in 2008.
