Often, one of the more challenging issues for people coming to therapy are significant problems in one or more of their primary relationships. Clients often cite “communication problems” with their spouse/partner, parent or child as a primary reason that life has become so difficult.
Effective interpersonal skill is a necessity especially with a spouse/partner, parent or child. Unfortunately, we often lack the interpersonal skill that will make us effective when the going gets tough. Typically, we struggle to regulate our emotions and either blow up or avoid difficult subjects. Unfortunately, blowing up or avoiding subjects doesn’t work well and often erodes a relationship to the point of disaster. Resolution and healing are most often had when you can communicate skillfully despite the initial reaction you may get from the other person.
If you would like to improve interpersonal skills for long lasting change in your significant relationships, I would be happy to help.
